function maxDate(dates : any) : Date {
    let max = dates[0],
    obj = new Date(dates[0]);

    dates.forEach(function(dt : Date) {
      if (new Date( dt ) > obj) {
        max = dt;
        obj = new Date(dt);
      }
    });
    return max;
}

const dates = ['2021/03/20', '2021/05/21', '2021/01/13', '2021/01/14', '2021/05/20'];

console.log(maxDate(dates));

/*
run:

"2021/05/21"

*/

const dates = ['2021/03/20', '2021/05/21', '2021/01/13', '2021/01/14', '2021/05/20'];

const max = dates.reduce(function(a, b) { return a > b ? a : b; });

console.log(max);

/*
run:

"2021/05/21"
